Washington Capitals’ Russian forward and captain Alexander Ovechkin was one step away from repeating his anti-personal record for the longest goalless streak in the National Hockey League (NHL).

On the night of December 10, Washington beat the New York Rangers with a score of 4:0 in the NHL regular season. Ovechkin failed to score in this match, thus extending his goalless streak to nine matches.

Ovechkin’s anti-record for this indicator in a regular season was set in February – March 2017 (ten games). A series of nine goalless matches was recorded in the 2008/2009 and 2010/2011 seasons.

In this season of the regular season of the National Hockey League, Ovechkin appeared on the ice in 24 games and scored only 15 points – five goals and ten assists. At the same time, in the match played against Dallas Stars on the night of December 8, the captain of the capital scored his 1500th point with an assist in the NHL. He became the first hockey player from Russia to achieve this feat.
