Washington Capitals forward and captain Alexander Ovechkin became the eighth hockey player to reach 1,500 points in the National Hockey League (NHL) while playing for a team.
The Russian joins Gordie Howe, Steve Yzerman, Sidney Crosby, Mario Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky, Joe Sakic and Ray Bourque.
The 38-year-old forward scored his anniversary point in the NHL regular season match against the Dallas Stars – in the 50th minute of the match, Ovechkin assisted Dylan Strome along with Anthony Mantha and made an assist.
The difference between Ovechkin, who holds the record for the most goals in the league, and Wayne Gretzky is 67 goals. In third place is Gordie Howe, who scored 801 goals during his NHL career.
This season, Washington Capitals captain Ovechkin appeared in 23 games in the National Hockey League regular season and scored five goals and ten assists. The Russian striker has not been able to score a goal in the last eight matches.
