During training, an argument broke out between Russian Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kirill Marchenko and Latvian goalkeeper Elvis Merzlikin. Journalist Brian Hedger reported this on social networks.

After that, Marchenko went up to Merzlikin and spoke loudly to him. A scuffle broke out and the hockey players were separated by Russian forward Dmitry Voronkov. Merzlikin later apologized.

Marchenko has been playing in Columbus since 2022. He played for SKA and Ugra in Russia. The Russian player played in 23 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) this season and scored seven goals and six assists.
