Former Spartak and Zenit player Vladimir Bystrov criticized the red-whites for inviting Spanish specialist Guillermo Abascal to the position of head coach. His words are quoted “Match TV”.
“Who is Clotet? Did they get the Spanish one from the circus? Where? I don’t understand at all. I didn’t know him until he came. Did Abbascala know? No, I don’t want to know either. Why don’t Russian coaches come to Spartak? Why was he given such powers? Spartak always had one mission: to fight for the championship. What are you telling me? If he had been invited to Ural, there would have been no doubt,” Bystrov said.
Abaskal took over as head of Spartak before the start of the 2022/23 season. He extended his contract with the team with a salary increase as the season progressed. Last season, under his leadership, the red and white team came third in the Russian Championship.
On November 29, Spartak lost 1:0 to Orenburg in the first quarter-final match of the Russian Cup RPL Road. The only goal of the match came from Nikolai Titkov. In the 40th minute of the match, red-white defender Oleg Ryabchuk received a red card.
In the Russian Premier League (RPL), Guillermo Abascal’s team is in fourth place with 27 points after 16 weeks.
