Russian New York Rangers forward Artemy Panarin broke the club record for the longest goal-scoring streak in home games at the start of the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
The 32-year-old Russian became the first Rangers player in the 21st century to score consecutive goals in nine such matches. He scored a goal in the Detroit Red Wings match on the night of November 30. The match ended with the New York team winning 3:2.
Rangers’ record for the longest goal-scoring match at the beginning of the season belongs to Mike Rogers, who played 15 games in the 1983-1984 season. Panarin shares third place with Mark Messier.
The Russian player appeared in 21 NHL games in total this season and scored 12 goals and 19 assists.
The leader of the league in the goal+pass system is Tampa Bay Lightning’s Russian forward Nikita Kucherov. He has 15 goals and 22 assists. The second is American TJ Miller (13+22) from Vancouver Canucks. His teammate Hughes Quinton (8+25) completed the top three.
