Two-time Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov said that under the current political conditions, the United Nations (UN) should not leave the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and international sports federations to solve problems related to the performance of athletes in international competitions. “The current chaos is a failure of the UN. I once discussed with the UN Secretary General that there should be a UN Ministry of Sports to deal with solving such problems. “It didn’t work,” Fetisov said.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.

The organization has not set a deadline for lifting the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). Additionally, no final decision regarding the admission of Russians to the Games has been announced.
