Russian Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin talked about the importance of hockey for Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin. His words are quoted Athletic.
“They both blossomed in the moments that mattered most. Hockey was an important part of their lives. But it’s not the most important thing. Family is of course the most important thing. Maybe they are the same in this regard. But they are also very different,” Malkin said.
Due to the lockout, Ovechkin and Crosby made their debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) in the same season, in the 2005/06 championship. The 38-year-old Russian has 1,497 career points (827 goals, 670 assists) in 1,364 NHL games. The 36-year-old Canadian player scored 1,526 (563+963) points in 1,210 matches.
Ovechkin played in 17 games in the NHL this season and recorded 5 goals and 7 assists. The difference between the Russian player who scored the most goals in the league and Wayne Gretzky is now 67 goals. On November 28, Washington will play against San Jose.
