Elche becomes the national capital of the men’s handball cadet category until Sunday. Yesterday started the final phase, in which CB Elche lost 27-31 to FC Barcelona. The tournament will take place at the Esperanza Lag pavilion from 15:30 until 12:30, when the final will take place on Sunday, June 12.
In yesterday’s presentation, Juan José Ávila, president of the Elche Handball Club, accompanied by representatives of the team’s coach Pau Saiz and the players’ parents, stated that the appointment was “probably one of the highlights”. It will be held in the city this year”, all thanks to “Elche Handball Club management”. A final stage where teams from six different autonomous communities will compete. As will be remembered, Elche won a Championship against Barcelona in the Junior category, although it was played at the El Toscar pavilion at the time.
Ávila thanked the Spanish Handball Federation and the City Council for their work “which made it possible for this Spanish Championship to come here”, in addition to the “parents who have done an outstanding job,” as this would not have been possible without everyone they are”. Likewise, he thanked his coach for his “extraordinary season with the players, the result being among the top eight teams in Spain”.
Saiz said he was “proud to be able to represent the city and the Valencian Community” at such an event. “Whatever happens, we should be proud to be among the top eight,” the coach concluded.
