On his Twitter page, American tennis player Reilly Opelka criticized the Wimbledon organizers for banning Russian athletes from participating in the tournament.

“Injuries are part of the sport, punishment for aggression on the pitch is part of the sport, discrimination/xenophobia is not part of the sport. Sport is a merit. When you remove the best players based on the results from the draw, you undermine the integrity of the tournament,” Opelka wrote.

Recall that Russian tennis players will miss Wimbledon at the end of June. On April 20, the organizers of the tournament decided not to allow athletes from Russia to compete.

A month before the start of the tournament, the Professional Tennis Association (ATP) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced that they would not award points to Wimbledon participants due to the non-admission of Russians and Belarusians. The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) also joined them.

Previously reportedThat the WTA could change its decision to deprive Wimbledon of rating points for the removal of Russians and Belarusians.
