Olympic champion of the Russian national team, Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov, in an interview with the YouTube channel “Super League” I remembered the victory at the 2018 Games, in which no National Hockey League (NHL) players participated.

“Obviously the Olympics did not have NHL players, but it was still great to win. And I think in 30-40 years no one will really remember that there was no NHL. You have the title of Olympic champion, which is very nice. We were very happy and tried not to even think that players from the NHL would not come. Okay, if they didn’t come, they didn’t come, it’s not our fault,” said Kaprizov.

In the Olympic finals, the Russian team defeated the German team 4:3 in overtime. Kirill scored the winning goal in overtime.

Kirill Kaprizov has been playing for Minnesota since 2020. He took part in 15 games in this season of the NHL regular season and managed to score 5 goals and make 10 assists in these games. Kaprizov previously defended the colors of CSKA Moscow, Salavat Yulaev Ufa and Metallurg Novokuznetsk, where he was a student. He was selected in the fifth round, 135th overall, by Minnesota in the 2015 NHL Draft. He won the Gagarin Cup with CSKA in 2017.
