Kaprizov previously defended the colors of CSKA Moscow, Salavat Yulaev Ufa and Metallurg Novokuznetsk, where he was a student. He was selected in the fifth round, 135th overall, by Minnesota in the 2015 NHL Draft. Kaprizov became an Olympic champion in 2018 as part of the Russian national team. In the final of the tournament against the German team, Kirill scored the winning goal in overtime. He won the Gagarin Cup with CSKA in 2017.
