Washington Capitals’ Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin was chosen as the third star of the match after scoring a double goal against the New York Islanders (4:1) in the regular season match of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Ovechkin opened the scoring of the match with the goal he scored in the 10th minute of the first period, with an assist from Evgeny Kuznetsov, another Russian striker of the capital. Ovechkin also scored five seconds before the final siren. The striker broke the goalless streak that lasted for six matches.
Before facing the Islanders, Ovechkin had two goals and seven assists in 12 games of the season. Now, during his entire career in the NHL, the Russian forward has scored 826 goals. The difference with Wayne Gretzky is 68 goals.
The best player of the meeting was Washington goalkeeper Hunter Shepard, who returned 36 of 37 shots to his own goal, while the capital’s Belarusian forward Alexei Protas, who scored his team’s third goal, ranked second.
