Russian forward and Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin repeated the goal record of the famous Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky in the National Hockey League (NHL), scoring into an empty goal.

On the night of November 12, Washington defeated the New York Islanders with a score of 4:1 in the NHL regular season. Ovechkin scored a double goal in this match – he opened the scoring in the match thanks to the first goal, while his second goal came in the last seconds of the match and was scored into the empty goal of the opposing team.
