Former Zenit head coach Vlastimil Petrzhela spoke about his hopes for the exchange of Sergei Semak and Guillermo Abascal between the clubs. His words are quoted “Bookmaker rating”.
“In my opinion, Semak could not have won the Russian championship at Spartak. To achieve this, Gazprom needs to sponsor.
I am sure that Abaskal would make the current Zenit the national champion, and Sergei would not achieve success in Spartak – there would be no championships or medals. You need a lot of money and influence,” Petrzela said.
Semak took over as head of Zenit in 2018 and worked on the coaching staff between 2013 and 2016. Under his leadership, St. Petersburg won the Russian Championship five times, the Cup once and the Super Cup three times. Twice Semak was chosen as the best coach of the year.
Abaskal took over as head of Spartak before the start of the 2022/23 season. He extended his contract with the team with a salary increase as the season progressed. Last season, under his leadership, the red and white team came third in the Russian Championship.
Zenit is in second place in the Russian Premier League (RPL) with 29 points after 14 weeks. Krasnodar is the leader (31 points). In the 15th round, the teams will play each other. The red-whites are in sixth place with 21 points.
