Congress of the International Skating Union extends suspension of Russians from international starts

The Congress of the International Skating Union (ISU) has extended the suspension of Russian athletes from international competitions until further notice.

The meeting of the Congress in Phuket began with issue 12 of the agenda, which approved the extension of a number of ISU communiqués, including April communiqué 2469, which referred to the situational cancellation of competitions in Russia and Belarus. Suspension of athletes in Ukraine, as well as Russian and Belarusian until further notice.

The same applies to ISU officials from Russia and Belarus.

It was previously reported that ISU delegates rejected Ukraine’s offer. not allow representatives of Russia and Belarus before participating in congresses and elections of the organization.

48 Congress members supported the motion of the Ukrainian side, 55 against and 13 abstained. 78 votes in favor were required for a positive resolution. In terms of participation in the elections, the situation developed as follows (for – 54, against – 46, abstaining – 16).

Recall that the ISU suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competition, following the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
