According to Ilta-Sanomat, former owner of Finnish Jokerit, Harri Harkimo, said that he regrets his decision to join the Kontinental Hockey League in the 2014/2015 season.
“It was bad. I regret sending Jokerit to the KHL. I have nothing else in Russia. I left the club five years ago. Looking back, I see that it was a mistake, but I didn’t think so at the time,” said Harkimo.
Jokerit and Dinamo Riga left the Kontinental Hockey League at the end of February 2022 due to the situation in Ukraine. Due to the Finns’ withdrawal from the league, their rivals Moscow’s Spartak automatically advanced to the semi-finals of the Gagarin Cup.
The Finns have twice reached the quarter-finals of the Gagarin Cup.
Due to the situation in Ukraine, many legionnaires left Russia. Some federations objected to the performance of hockey players in the KHL. So, Latvia passed a law banning local athletes and coaches from participating in competitions in Russia and Belarus.
Jokerit is currently playing in the Finnish Championship. This season, it ranks fifth with 22 points.
