Bulgarian biathlete Krasimir Anev is in intensive care in serious condition. This was reported by dir.bg.
It was reported that the 36-year-old athlete was found in the Drenov Dol dam area near the city of Kyustendil (Bulgaria) on November 1. According to the police, Anev was injured by a bullet in his abdomen. He is currently in a medically induced coma and his condition is considered serious but stable.
Anev is the 2019 European champion in the individual event, as well as a multiple medalist at the European Championships and Universiades. She participated in three Olympic Games in 2014, 2010 and 2018. Anev ended his professional biathlete career at the age of 33 after the 2019/20 season.
In the spring of 2022, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) announced its decision to admit Belarusian and Russian biathletes to the World Cup and IBU stages only as neutral athletes. As a result, the Russians decided to skip the competition at the end of the 2021/22 season. In September 2022, the organization extended the suspension indefinitely.
Last season Russians participated only in the domestic championship. To increase the competition, biathletes from Belarus were invited.
