The Russian Foreign Ministry described the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) recent statements regarding discrimination against athletes as double standards. The relevant statement appeared on: official website of the organization.
The statement said, “We demand that international sports organizations abandon this approach to the participation of national teams in the Olympics and adhere to the letter and norms of the provisions of the Olympic Charter, remembering the principle of “Sports is beyond politics.”
In a recent statement, the IOC said Israeli athletes cannot be discriminated against because they are not responsible for the government’s actions.
At the end of February 2022, the IOC issued a call to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
