Lane Hinckley, Canadian hockey player of the Charlottetown Islanders hockey team of the QMJHL League, said in his social networks that he decided to retire at the age of 19 due to the risk of early dementia.

“Friday morning I found out I couldn’t play hockey anymore. I took too many blows to the head and suffered a concussion and as a result did not have time to heal properly,” Hinckley wrote.

The hockey player stated that he is at risk of developing chronic traumatic encephalopathy and dementia.

“The doctor told me that the MRI showed that I had a 25 x 17 mm area on my brain, as well as other scarring that they couldn’t measure,” Hinckley added.

Denis Law, formerly of Manchester United saidHe said he has Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia.

The striker played for Manchester United from 1962 to 1973. Lowe became a two-time England champion with the Red Devils.
