“Honestly, I was shocked to hear this today. He’s my friend, my teammate, and it’s hard to understand how he’s going through this,” Ovechkin said.
Bäckström previously admitted that the injury forced him to pause his career indefinitely. He has been playing for the Capitals since 2007. In this season of the National Hockey League (NHL), Bäckström played eight games and recorded one assist.
