Didier Drogba intervened and asked French fans to show respect as Dibu was booed at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
El Dibu Martínez was awarded the Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeeper of 2023 at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris. As Martínez took the stage to receive his award, his last-minute save from Randal Kolo Muani in the World Cup final of 2022 was replayed on the screen and the French fans present in the hall could be heard booing the Argentinian.
Former Chelsea star Didier Drogba, who hosted the ceremony, had to intervene at one point and ask fans to show respect for the award winner. The former striker told the hecklers to stop and show some respect to the World Cup winner.
Earlier, as the Aston Villa star entered the Theater du Chatelet with his wife Amanda Gama, French fans were heard booing the goalkeeper.
