Dynamo Moscow forward Fedor Smolov believes that the Russian national team will not play in the 2026 World Cup. His words are quoted “RB Sport”.

“To be honest, I think the Russian team will not play in the 2026 World Cup. For this to happen, we need to be allowed to participate in the qualifying matches now. That is why it will not play,” Smolov said.

The International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team and all Russian clubs in all competitions controlled by these organizations in the spring of 2022.

The national team, led by Valery Karpin, advanced to the play-offs in the 2022 World Cup, but could not participate due to suspension. Also, Russians will miss Euro 2024 because they did not participate in the election.
