“My support is optional”: Ukrainian Maguchikh spoke about the letter from Lasitskene

Speaking to YouTube channel Evgenia Pronina, Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Maguchikh said that she received a letter from Olympic champion Russian high jumper Maria Lasitskene after the World Championships held in Oregon in July 2022.

“He wrote to me, but you know the message was: “I’m sorry I didn’t write to you sooner. I thought you don’t need this, why do you need this? My support and words are optional. I sat and thought. Write to me after the World Cup, even though I gave so many interviews that I did not receive any messages,” Maguchikh said.

The Ukrainian athlete said that the letter from the Russian was his reaction to Maguchikh’s interview in which he said that he had not received any message.

Maguchikh is the 2020 Olympic bronze medalist, 2023 world champion, 2022 European champion, 2022 world indoor champion, two-time European indoor champion (2021, 2023), world silver medalist (2019, 2022), Ukrainian champion of the year 2021.

In August 2022, Olympic champion in high jump Lasitskene announced that Maguchikh disowned him after a meeting with some structures in Ukraine.
