Eteri Tutberidze’s coaching staff was left without a medal in adult competitions in women’s single skating for the first time since 2018. This was reported by sports.ru.
On October 29, Maya Khromykh, who trained in Tutberidze’s group, failed to win a medal at the third stage of the Russian Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk, finishing only fifth, collecting a total of 193.22 points. Did not realize ultra-si elements.
Five years ago, at Skate Canada 2018, one of the international stages of the Grand Prix, Elisabeth Tursynbaeva and Daria Panenkova, who trained with Tutberidze, finished fifth and ninth respectively. Since then, the athletes who have trained at this center have won medals in every senior competition they participated in.
In September 2022, Khromykh suffered a serious hand injury during training – the skater severely cut the tendons of his fingers with a skate blade, after which he was hospitalized. He had to sit out last season due to his injury.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that domestic and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions due to the political situation. For this reason, the International Skating Union (ISU) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions. The organization was supposed to discuss the issue of accepting Russia and Belarus at the council meeting held in Lausanne on October 6-8, but did not do so.
