Russian Abbotsford Canucks forward Vasily Podkolzin suffered a head injury in an American Hockey League (AHL) match. Canucks Army reports.

The Vancouver Canucks farm club beat the Colorado Eagles with a score of 5:2. At the end of the third period, Podkolzin collided with opposing defenseman Keaton Middleton, hit the boards and fell to the ice. The Russian was taken off the ice on a stretcher. Middleton was given a five-minute penalty for this segment.

Last season, Podkolzin appeared in 39 matches for Vancouver and scored 4 goals and 3 assists in these matches. He also spent part of the season with the Abbotsford Canucks. Vancouver failed to reach the play-offs in the tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

Podkolzin, SKA St. Moved from St. Petersburg to Vancouver. He was considered one of the top prospects in the 2019 National Hockey League Draft and was selected tenth overall by the Vancouver Canucks. He signed a 3-year contract with the team on May 31, 2021.
