Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin believes Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews can surpass him in goals scored during the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season. Ovechkin quotes his words press service NHL.

Matthews has 300 goals in the NHL. He scored 6 goals in 5 matches this season.

“Yes of course. Now he is the best sniper. He creates chances, he has an incredible shot. My answer is yes,” Ovechkin said.

In the current season of the NHL regular championship, Alexander Ovechkin took part in four matches of the team, in which he made two assists.

The Russians continue their search for legendary Canadian Wayne Gretzky, the best sniper in league history, who scored 894 goals. Ovechkin has 822 goals. Last season Alexander scored 42 goals and made 33 assists in 73 matches.

In their next game, Washington will play the Toronto Maple Leafs. The meeting will take place on October 25. The start face is scheduled for 1:00 Moscow time.
