Journalist sports network Rory Boylen expressed the opinion that the Washington Capitals will not undergo a full-fledged rebuild while team captain Alexander Ovechkin chases Wayne Gretzky’s record.

“There is no doubt that the Capitals’ core is past its prime. “This is a team that’s rebuilding, and they’re not going to be able to truly rebuild with Ovechkin around and chasing history,” Boylen said.

Ovechkin failed to score in any of Washington’s four games to start the season. This happened for the first time in the 2012/2013 season. After the goal shortage that season, the striker scored 32 goals in 48 matches in the regular season.

On the night of October 22, Moscow time, the 38-year-old Russian made an assist in the regular season match against the Montreal Canadiens, but this did not help the capital avoid defeat. Ovechkin’s team lost with a score of 2:3 in overtime.

In total, Ovechkin has 822 goals in the NHL regular championship, he is second in the list of Russian snipers after Wayne Gretzky (894).

Washington will face the Toronto Maple Leafs in their next game. The match will be played on October 25.

Previously reportedConsidering last season, Ovechkin’s goalless streak is stated to be nine games.
