Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Islam Makhachev published a post on his social media page dedicated to his victory over Australian Alexander Volkanovski.
“Thank you very much to all my fans, everyone who worried and supported. I am glad that all questions and doubts have been resolved. Let’s move on,” Makhachev wrote.
The Russian player defeated his opponent by knockout in the first round and defended his title for the second time. The previous meeting between them also ended in Makhachev’s victory.
Initially, the Russian was supposed to fight Oliveira at the tournament in Abu Dhabi, but he was injured during training and could not perform. In the co-main fight of the night, Swedish-Chechen fighter Khamzat Chimaev defeated Nigerian Kamaru Usman by decision.
On February 12, 2023, Makhachev defeated Alex Volkanovski by unanimous decision after five rounds at the UFC-284 tournament in Perth (Australia).
Now Makhachev has 26 fights and 25 victories.
