Gerardo Martino confirmed that Josef Martínez is not in Inter Miami’s plans amid rumors of Luis Suárez’s arrival.

Martínez did not travel with Inter Miami for Saturday’s MLS final against Charlotte FC, where the Herons lost 1-0. Martínez has scored 10 goals in 32 appearances for the club in all competitions this season and after the match Martino confirmed he will not be there next season.

“Josef did not travel because he will hardly continue with our club next season,” said Martino. “We talked and the smartest decision was not to travel for this last match and not to take a completely unnecessary risk.”

Martínez’s possible departure comes amid reports linking the club with Luis Suárez, who had his best days alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona. Messi has already been joined in Miami by Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba and Suarez’s current club Gremio have already agreed to let him leave in December, paving the way for a move to MLS.
