Charles Leclerc has claimed his third pole position of the season (the 21st of his career in Formula 1) and will open the grid for the United States Grand Prix, the eighteenth race of the 2023 calendar, on Sunday. Carlos Sainz finished qualifying in fourth place. Fernando Alonso crashed in the first quarter for the first time this season.
While the Monaco driver was the fastest in the classification held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, ahead of Lando Norris (McLaren) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), his teammate also competed. Carlos Sainz achieved the fourth best time and will come out second. Fernando Alonso, the only driver in the 17th quarter so far in all classes this season, was eliminated at the first change this time. He will start from 17th on Sunday, behind the wheel of an Aston Martin that failed to achieve the expected results despite a major update package in Austin, with neither Alonso nor Stroll making it past the first quarter screen.
