Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation President Irina Viner said that local gymnasts will not go to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris with neutral status. She announced this at the forum “Russia is a Sports Power”.
“We always hear one thing at the Olympic Games: squat lower, lower. In what sense: in the sense that we always bend. We are doing something wrong, the athletes wear white jerseys with the slogan “I give up”: without anthems, without fans. You also cannot communicate with journalists. The mayor of Paris actually said that we should participate in the Olympics as refugees.
I think my colleagues and our children will not go to the Olympics with this status. It’s a shame! We are used to the singing of our anthem and the flags in the stands. So are we going to go without all this now? This does not befit the dignity of a country like Russia,” Wiener said.
The Summer Olympic Games will take place between July 26 and August 11, 2024.
At the executive committee meeting of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on March 28, it was proposed to allow the Russians to remain in neutral status if the athletes do not actively support the fight. Athletes representing law enforcement agencies and armed forces will not be allowed to compete.
Previously Guberniev statedthat the Olympic champions of the past do not care about the athletes of the present.
