In his comment to socialbites.ca, famous Russian coach Fedor Kanareikin talked about the form of Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin and said that he can still score up to 40 goals in the regular season.
“The season is just starting, Ovechkin will score 30-40 more goals in a season, God willing. He’s not a young man though and the start of the season goes differently. We need to be patient and I think it will soon reach its all-time high,” says Kanareikin.
The Washington Capitals have had a poor start to the season and are in last place in the Metropolitan Division with two points from three games. The capital’s only victory came in a shootout thanks to a successful attempt by Evgeniy Kuznetsov. Ovechkin, who continues to break Wayne Gretzky’s goal record, failed to score a single goal in three matches and made only one assist in the last match. While Ovechkin has 822 goals in the NHL regular championship, Gretzky, who holds the “eternal” sniper record, has 894 shots on target throughout his career.
