Russian mixed style (MMA) fighter Eduard Vartanyan said that he will compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) competitions with the flags of Russia and Armenia. Vartanyan’s words are quoted “Sports Express”.
“I will go to fights in the UFC with Russian and Armenian flags. I was born in Yerevan. Yes, I spent my entire adult life in Russia. My mother is Russian, a native Muscovite. My great-grandmother is from Moscow,” said Vartanyan.
In October, UFC president Dana White allowed Russian fighters to enter the Octagon with their own flag.
Vartanyan from Yerevan competed in 29 matches in his professional MMA career and had 25 wins and 4 defeats in these matches. On June 16, he defeated Kazakh fighter Artem Reznikov by technical knockout in the ACA-159 tournament.
Vartanyan became the first interim champion in ACA history. He won the World Cup in sambo fighting in 2014. He is a member of the Lionheart team.
