WHAT HAPPENED? Former Spanish international Xabi Alonso signed a contract last summer that will keep him at the German club until 2026. But he could leave sooner if Real Madrid, Liverpool or Bayern Munich show interest in his services, according to reports. . That clause in his contract comes into effect in the summer of 2024. Alonso played for all three clubs during his glittering career as a footballer, winning numerous major titles.
THE RUMORS: Alonso has been strongly linked with Real Madrid this season and Ancelotti will leave the Santiago Bernabeu next summer. The Spaniard coaches Bayer Leverkusen with great success in the Bundesliga and has last year’s Europa League semi-finalists at the top of the rankings after seven rounds.
