International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said that the conditions for participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions are not subject to discussion. His words are quoted Inside the Games.
“There were some comments from Russia regarding these conditions. These terms are non-negotiable and we will not waive them. Bach said that this approach must be strictly adhered to in order to provide credibility and support among the public, athletes and the international community.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee issued a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
At the meeting of the IOC Executive Committee on March 28, 2023, it was proposed to allow the Russians to remain in neutral status if the athletes are not actively involved in supporting military operations.
