Speed skating world record holder Pavel Kulizhnikov believes the prize money for international records is too small. He shared his opinion with him “Match TV”.
“The prize money promised to the strongest in Spartakiad? These are pennies compared to what we can earn on the international stage. Money doesn’t motivate me, I just want to perform.
Did Kliment Kolesnikov break the world record and get a million? It is physically impossible for us to do this. During the international season they run on high altitude ice rinks, but we don’t have such an ice rink, which means we won’t get the same results. For swimmers, water is the same everywhere.
And I think in our time a million is not enough for a record. “The players would laugh and say they wouldn’t even go to the toilet for that money,” he said.
29-year-old Kulizhnikov is a five-time world champion in individual distances, a three-time world champion in the overall sprint, multiple European champion and a participant in the 2022 Olympic Games.
Previously Kulizhnikov statedwill not act in a neutral status.
