Journalist Jamie McLellan shared his views on Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin being among the top 50 players in the National Hockey League (NHL), where he is ranked 33rd. The journalist’s words are quoted by TSN.
“This man is timeless! Yes, he may be slower, but he continues to score goals at his 28 pace. I expect him to lead the sniper race. He does this better than anyone in hockey history. And until he really gives up… Yeah, that might happen this year, but I’ve been thinking that way for the last five years,” McLellan said.
Ovechkin, who played in 74 regular season games in the NHL last season, scored 42 goals and 33 assists. However, this did not help the Capitals reach the tournament’s play-offs.
The Russian player currently has 822 goals scored in his NHL career. The difference with Wayne Gretzky is 72 goals. The Canadian has 894 goals and remains first among snipers in NHL history.
In the first game of the regular season, Washington will play against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The meeting will take place on October 14. The first match will take place at 2:30 Moscow time.
