Lionel Messi has reportedly already decided where he will end his playing career, but it won’t be in Miami or Barcelona.
Messi’s contract with Inter Miami expires in 2025, after which he will look to return to his boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys in his native Argentina, according to El Nacional. There is an option for the World Cup winner to extend his contract with Miami for another year, but the report claims he wants to retire in his country.
Messi left Barcelona in 2021 after more than two decades at the club, having joined the Blaugranas from Newell’s when he was just 13 years old. He turned down a return to Camp Nou when he left Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the 2022-23 season, and now it seems a fairytale return to Barcelona will never happen.
