The International Ski Federation (FIS) extended the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes at its autumn conference in Zurich. This was announced by Lars Oberg, director of the Swedish Ski Association, in a comment to Aftonbladet.
“From the perspective of Sweden and Scandinavia as a whole, it was pleasing that the FIS decided that it had not changed its view on the Russian issue. This issue turned out to be quite important because there was some uncertainty regarding this issue.
There was no discussion, there was additional information. We have made it clear not only to the Nordic countries and the Swedish Olympic Committee, but also to Russia and Belarus that we do not think there is any reason to return them to the status quo.
Nothing has changed since the decision was made to remove them. We, as Sweden, have taken this line together with the Northern countries. So we are happy. Unfortunately, it has to be said that we have to continue this approach,” Oeberg said.
In the spring of 2022, the International Ski Federation decided to suspend representatives of Russia and Belarus from international events until the end of the 2021/22 season. On October 22, 2022, this decision was extended for the next season.
Previously athletes from Russia accepted For the 2024 Paralympic Games.
