Minnesota forward Kirill Kaprizov scored 32 seconds after the start of the game. Alex Goligoski doubled the Wild’s lead midway through the first quarter. With four minutes left in the starting period, Colorado forward Spencer Smallman minimized his team’s lead.
In the National Hockey League play-offs last season, Minnesota lost to the Dallas Stars in the 1/8 finals, 2:4. Kaprizov appeared in all six matches of the series and scored only one goal.
In total, the Russian forward played in 67 games for Minnesota during the NHL regular season, scoring 40 goals and making 35 assists. Ovechkin became the fifth most productive Russian after Malkin, Panarin and Kucherov. Kaprizov missed nearly a month due to injury.
The new season in the NHL will start on the night of October 11, Moscow time. Three games will be played on the first day: the Vegas Golden Knights will face the Seattle Kraken, Nashville will play Tampa, and the Chicago Blackhawks will face the Pittsburgh Penguins.
