Napoli star Victor Osimhen refused to celebrate his goal against Udinese following a controversy with his club over a TikTok.
Napoli posted a video on TikTok of Osimhen missing a penalty against Bologna and added a high-pitched voice in the background shouting: “Give me a penalty, please.” That video was deleted, as was another from a few days earlier in which the Serie A champions called the 24-year-old a ‘coconut’.
The striker’s agent, Roberto Calenda, has suggested legal action could be taken against the Italian side for publicly mocking his client. But the striker, who disrespected some of his teammates before the match, did not let that stop him and scored again against Udinese on Wednesday. However, Osimhen refused to celebrate despite scoring two goals for his team, where Napoli won the match 4–1.
Osimhen was not happy with what happened and as a result deleted all posts related to Naples on his social networks. While he started against Udinese, this is likely to lead to speculation that he could leave the club in January. The Nigeria international has scored 62 goals for Napoli in 107 appearances since becoming their record £79million signing in 2020.
Napoli’s next match is against Lecce in Serie A on Saturday, before facing Real Madrid in the Champions League on October 3.
