Javier Pastore, former teammate of Lionel Messi in Argentina, supports PSG’s position on not celebrating World Cup victory

Javier Pastore has backed his former club, PSG, in their stance not to celebrate Lionel Messi’s World Cup win last year.

Recently, the Argentina captain stated that he was the only player from the World Cup-winning Albiceleste who could not celebrate their victory against his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, in December. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi later responded to Messi’s comments by stating that it was a show of respect towards the people of France and Paris who had lost the final to Argentina.

Pastore, Messi’s former teammate in Argentina and former PSG star, has now backed his former club’s stance against celebrating Argentina’s victory in Qatar.

Speaking to RMC Sport, Pastore said: “I didn’t talk to him about this but that’s normal. It was a bit difficult to celebrate a world champion in a country that lost the final. It meant a lot for the club to not to do that.” Do something important not to accentuate a bad moment for France and for the players from Paris who played in the World Cup.

“After that, every player can think whatever he wants. To be honest, I don’t know everything that happened at PSG in the last two years because I wasn’t there. I wasn’t Messi’s teammate. I don’t know. It’s something between the club and the player.”

Messi left PSG after spending just two seasons at the club and moved to the United States to join Inter Miami of Major League Soccer.

The 36-year-old remains a doubt for Inter Miami’s US Open final against Houston Dynamo on Wednesday due to the injury he suffered while playing for the national team earlier this month.
