World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) representative James Fitzgerald said the organization is confident in a fair outcome in the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. His words are quoted Reuters.
“We want a fair outcome based on the facts,” Fitzgerald said.
A doping scandal broke out around Kamila Valieva during the 2022 Olympics. A banned substance was found in the sample taken by the athlete in December 2021. They wanted to disqualify him from participating in the Games. Literally a day before the start of the women’s individual competition, it was decided to admit her to the tournament.
He did not win a medal in the individual tournament, but took first place in the team championship. In case of a positive decision, the Russian team could lose its team tournament medal.
In case of disqualification and annulment of results, Valieva may lose gold at the 2022 European Championships, team victory at the Beijing Olympic Games and medals at the Russian competitions.
