Sports consultant, winner of the first adult category in athletics, marathon runner, competition winner, Sportmaster PRO expert Galina Prokopyeva told how to breathe correctly while running. He told socialbites.ca about the main mistake that novice athletes make.

“When you run, you need to breathe naturally and freely. There is no need to hold your breath or count the time of inhalation and exhalation – this is a common mistake of novice athletes. In order to provide as much oxygen to the body as possible, one should breathe frequently and take in air deeply. To do this, the shoulder girdle needs to be relaxed – the shoulders are slightly lowered, but not directed forward. In order for the diaphragm muscles to work, you need to start breathing from the stomach.

There is also a common belief that you should only breathe through your nose. “This is also true in daily life, but when the body is exposed to physical activity, this amount of air is not enough and you need to breathe through your nose and mouth at the same time,” he said.

Previously Prokopyeva said about the dangers of running while listening to music through headphones.
