Alexander Enbert, silver medalist in figure skating of the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Games, in an interview with socialbites.ca, highly appreciated the new free program of Kamila Valieva, in which the figure skater embodied the image of the Black Panther.
“I didn’t dedicate the program to the dance styles that are available there; contemporary, strip dance or something else. Kamila was in character from beginning to end, and I perceived her program as a complete mini-production on ice. Everything was organic.
Watching this screening live, I didn’t get the sense that there were too many musical transitions or that they were chaotic. The program was kept at a good pace with some quiet parts.
In figure skating, this type of arrangement is often used to show different skating tempos, different speeds, and different moods. A four-minute free show isn’t much to tell any story, so you have to play around with the music to provide some kind of continuity,” Enbert said.
Valieva performed a free program to the compositions of Ludwig Göransson’s Wakanda and Rihanna’s Lift Me Up.
