Krasnodar and Russian national team goalkeeper Matvey Safonov thanked national team coach Valery Karpin for sharing his views. His words are quoted “Match TV”.
“I don’t think he called for weakening the championship. He encouraged people to try their hand at other environments if they have the opportunity. So Valery Karpin’s advice is more about making sure the football players don’t think that everything is fine in Russia. I personally thank him for sharing his opinion I can. For me, it’s great to understand when a person says what he sincerely thinks,” said Safonov.
Karpin said after the friendly match against the Qatar national team that Russian players should leave the Russian Premier League (RPL). He later clarified his words by saying that he was not advising everyone to leave the league, his words were only about transfers to Europe’s top 5 championships.
On September 12, the Russian team drew 1:1 in a friendly match with Qatar. The Russians played their last official match in November 2021.
Previously Gennady Orlov appreciated Karpin’s advice to football players to leave RPL.
