Russian President Vladimir Putin applauded Daniil Medvedev’s performance against Novak Djokovic in the US Open final. This was reported by RIA News.
During the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum, discussion moderator Ilya Doronov suggested greeting the successful result of the 27-year-old Russian with applause.
“Let’s thank Daniil for what he was able to do (manage to reach the final of the tournament),” Doronov said.
The final match of the US Open 2023 took place between Djokovic and Medvedev on the night of September 11, Moscow time, and ended in three sets with scores of 3:6, 6:7 (5), 3:6. The meeting lasted 3 hours and 17 minutes.
The 36-year-old Serbian tennis player became the oldest champion of the tournament, surpassing the record of Australian tennis player Ken Rosewall (35 years old). Djokovic won the Grand Slam tournament for the 24th time and the US Open for the fourth time.
