Russian tennis player Anastasia Pivovarova, the former second player in the world among juniors, spoke about Daniil Medvedev’s loss to Novak Djokovic in the US Open final. He told socialbites.ca that Medvedev made too many mistakes.
“Medvedev lacked consistency, Djokovic played very well in scoring. He made easy mistakes, but they did not happen at important moments of the match. And Medvedev unfortunately allowed unforced errors and therefore Djokovic had the advantage.
It’s clear that Djokovic probably doesn’t have enough stamina and strength to play four or five sets. Daniil’s main task was to extend the game and he could have a chance to beat Djokovic thanks to his stamina due to the long match. But unfortunately he could not recover at the right time in the first games. Thanks to his experience, Djokovic knew how to play at which moment and the match was quite easy for him,” says Pivovarova.
Medvedev lost to Djokovic in three sets. The match ended in favor of the Serbian with scores of 6:3, 7:6 (7:5), 6:3.
