Luis Rubiales announced that he will not return to the presidency of the RFEF following the suspension imposed on him by FIFA.

Luis Rubiales has resigned. During an interview with English journalist Piers Morgan, Rubiales confirmed that he will not return to the presidency of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, following the 90-day ban imposed on him by FIFA.

“I have resigned as President of the RFEF. Following the swift suspension by FIFA, plus the rest of the proceedings opened against me, it is clear that I will not be able to return to my position.”

The now former president of the RFEF caused controversy during the awards ceremony of the last Women’s World Cup, where he kissed player Jennifer Hermoso on the mouth. This act was condemned in Spain and other parts of the world as they considered it sexual harassment by the manager.

Days after this event, Rubiales declared at a press conference that he would not resign as president of the Spanish Federation, arguing that the best moment in the history of Spanish football was lived under his mandate.

THE FAREWELL LETTER FROM RUBIALES

Through his ” :

Below is Rubiales’ letter:

Good night.

Today at 9:30 p.m., I communicated to the Acting President, Mr. Pedro Rocha, my resignation from the position of President of the RFEF.

I also informed you that I have done the same with my position at UEFA so that my position in the Vice-Presidency can be replaced.

Following the swift suspension by FIFA, plus the rest of the proceedings opened against me, it is clear that I will not be able to return to my position.

Insisting on waiting and sticking to it will not contribute anything positive, neither to the Federation nor to Spanish football. Partly because there are de facto powers that stand in the way of my return.

There is the management of my team and above all the luck that I have due to the enormous privilege of these more than 5 years at the head of the RFEF.

I do not want Spanish football to be harmed by this whole disproportionate campaign and, above all, I am taking this decision after ensuring that my departure will contribute to the stability that will allow both Europe and Africa to remain united in the dream of 2030. ., allowing the largest event in the world to be brought to our country.

I have to look ahead, look to the future. Now there is something that really concerns me. I have faith in the truth and I will do everything in my power to make it prevail. My daughters, my family and the people who love me have suffered the consequences of excessive persecution and many untruths, but it is also true that on the streets, more and more every day, the truth prevails.

From here I give a big hug to all workers, members of the city council, federations and football people in general and wish them good luck.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me during these times.

Luis Manuel Rubiales Béjar
