Beckham’s team will be left wanting without their star man, so can his compatriot step up in his absence?

For Inter Miami, and anyone else lucky enough to have him, there is no way to replace Lionel Messi. The evidence is there for all to see. Before Messi: 11 games without winning. Since Messi’s arrival: 11 games unbeaten, with a possible trophy and another on the way. It can’t get much better than that, right?

This weekend, however, Inter Miami will be without their star man for the first time since his era-defining arrival. Messi has returned to Argentina to lead the world champions to qualification for the next edition of the tournament. And so, for the first time, Inter Miami will have the challenge, or perhaps the opportunity, to show that it is more than Messi when given the assignment Sporty KC.

It will undoubtedly be a challenge, but no one in Miami is ill-prepared to meet it. Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba are still in South Beach and ready to contribute, as are mainstays like DeAndre Yedlin and Kamal Miller.

Replacing Messi is not a one-man job, and there is no single player who will be asked to take full responsibility for replacing him. Still, with Messi out, this seems to be the moment when the club can really unleash their other new Argentine striker, the one who could well be the future of this club.

Facundo Farias, goes up. Without Messi, now is the time to shine.
